Hmm...

Post by Glauri » Thu Jun 21, 2018 5:43 am

Was crashing, and found that it was my UI.

So, no longer crashing, but cannot seem to replace the default spell icons with the set I am accustomed to using. Any ideas as to where those default icons are stored, so that I can over-write them?

No, I think it's one of the UI files, but I'm so old that I've forgotten! lol

Wasn't there some file that we made 'read only' after the last patch? Maybe that's it?

You cant delete it from the default folder, it will get overwritten every start. It must be put in a custom folder. then said folder loaded from the UI section in game.

Spell icons should be "Spell_Icons.tga"
The xml file is just their positioning ect.. The tga file is the graphics.

So I copy it from the default folder to my custom folder, in which I also have my custom spell icons?

no, you put the file you want to use in a new folder. When you load that UI folder it will use the custom files in it instead of the default.

You do not need all the default files in your custom folder. The game only loads the new files from the custom folder, and anything not there it pulls from the default folder automatically.

They also may be "Spells01.tga" through "Spells07.tga"

Turlo would be a expert to ask on what files exactly need to be moved.

It wouldn't be a custom UI without its own folder I just assumed that. The deleting that XML file and just inserting your old style icons was from the test update thread. For my custom I always just copied everything from default and replaced the spell files with old versions.

Apparently, no matter what I try, only the default UI loads.

Two different UIs, both updated today, fail to load. Dunno why!

If I open UI_Glauri_drinal in notepad and manually change the line UISkin=default to UISkin=Balfor and save it, when I try to reload my UI to the BalforUI, it loads again to default. When I reopen my UI_Glauri_drinal file in notepad, UISkin=default is there again!

I would, Bit...but looking at the default icons drives me crazy. I have no idea what any of them are, as I've been playing with alternate icons for over a decade. With the default icons, I cannot glance at my spell bar and know what to cast...or at your buffs and know what buffs you are lacking.

I use a folder named hybrid. Every patch I copy all the default UI files into it and then copy from the folder i keep with the original spell icons. I believe they are .tga files, but am at work.

Thanks Tandt for getting me something workable. And thanks for all of the other advice as well! So annoying when patches totally muck up our UI!

From DB:

"The transparency layer in window_pieces02.tga for the spell gem holder was modified, custom UIs may need to adjust for this change.

This goes along with a change to the layer order for spell-gems where previously the colored gem-holder was rendered behind the spell image. Now the gem holder with its center set to transparent is rendered on top of the buff image to ensure a consistent outline."

Apparently fixing this is a major PITA. Apparently...

Spellicon is rendered
instead of:
<Holder>

under:
<Background>
<Highlight>

holder is the image it shows when you have no spell memmed.
background is that square around it.
and highlight is the mouse over highlight of that square.
so for holder we can just put any blank button graphic.
but background and highlight will now need to be custom made to fit, with proper transparency.

WAAY above my pay grade!!! lol And this is just for spellbar discrepancies!!

Just for reference , what I posted works perfectly for me, deleting the spellicon.xml and inserting old spell gems give me exactly the same screen I used to have with no fuss no muss.
