Open beta for World of Warcraft will be beginning any day now. I plan on trying it out. (Nevermind the fact that I signed up for WoW beta on DAY 1 of the sign-up and STILL haven't received an invite...
Are there any CN members (current or former) in beta now or planning on trying it out? I'm thinking we should all try to get on the same server if we can.

I'll be playing, along with 2 roommates, a neighbor, their dog, and some vagrant I found wandering down the street on the way to work.
Was in the stresstest, and had a blast.

I hope I'm not considered the vagrant
I'll be playing when it goes live.

Closed Beta ENDS this Friday! Open Beta here we go......
Posted: Fri Oct 29, 2004 2:21 am
Yeah, closed beta ends today (Friday) at 6 pm EST. They have announced that they will be doing another stress test very shortly. Not sure if this "stress test" is really open beta, or if it will be becoming open beta as time goes on, but it sure looks like the closed beta servers are coming down for good.
EQ2's official release date is 11/8 (8/11 for you Euro types
). WoW would be stupid to not at least be in full scale open beta by then. I'm sure they can delay actual release a week or two after that as long as they have open beta available for EQ2's release.
More info here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/
As soon as anyone signs up on a specific server either for stress test, or open beta, please come post where you are.

I've got some chars on beta and beta2. Might change to a ST server to hookup with others when I finish this download.

Stress Test opened today but you need a FilePlanet account to join (what's another 15$
) They say ST will last 5-7 days than Open Beta will start.
Not able to start download tonight as worldofwarcraft.com is temporarily down.... go figure :p

I'll be playing stress test - probably tonight. Downloaded the client over night last night, and created my account today. Client is installing now, so should be playing tonight.
As I posted in the general forum, whoever gets in first and chooses a server, please post it here as soon as you do. I will do the same, so hopefully we can all get on the same server.

they segregated the CB/ST servers and I won't be able to play with others until OB.

Looks like I'm going to be on "Test 5", I think, for the stress test, at least. It is a regular (non PvP) server located in the US Central time zone. I'm actually in the EST time zone, but close to central, and I figured if we're going to choose a CN server, it should be centrally located.
I would imagine servers are going to change for the actual open beta, and then probably again for the retail release, however.
(on a side note, I logged in far enough to patch the client - a small patch - and watched the opening CGI. I have to say I was very impressed. It was probably the best introductory video/scene I’ve ever seen in any game. I especially liked the dorf in the snow - the graphics were incredible!)

Thanks for the link Nebbie. I will start it as soon as I get home tonight. I tried to start it last night but the site was down so no go that route.

Went home and logged in at lunch for a few mins. Now Test 5 is listed in a different time zone, and there were no non-PvP servers in the "central" time zone at all. So I ended up picking Test 11 (I think), in the Mountain time zone.
So who knows, really. Going to try Test 11 and see how it goes, I guess. Once the official open beta starts, hopefully they will nail down servers. Obviously once the game is released servers will be set in stone, and we can all pick one.

The Stress Test servers will become the Open Beta servers. They will just add even more servers.
Shame I'm stuck on the Closed Beta one

Oh! also... people not in stress test can use the above link to download early for open beta...

I tried to make a new login for the CN wow site, but got no confirmation
2nd attempt got my email is already in use, could ya purge or fix me up with something Rendus, PM if needed.
Since no consensus on stress test server I made a level 8 rogue this AM on eastern time zone PvP server 1 (which is server 13).
I can move to a PvE server(made several chars) but since I wont play a PvP on release thought it would be worth investigating it more indepth to be certain.

I'm still fiddling with the site.. Try just logging in, even if you didn't get the email.
Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 8:30 am
There is/was no password during the signup
just username/email/confirm email.
I'll try againthough, I know its early and your doing this as a side project so no rush.

I'm on the server as Worin the NE male rogue. (Test 5 - PvE, central zone)

Saw Nebbie and Eld for a little bit - playing Teory for the beta, just so I'm easier to find. We made a channel - /join cnwow
Works just like in EQ. And so far I love it. Weirdest thing that had me all excited, you can sit on chairs and at the end of the night, you can /sleep and you actually lay down and snore :p

Im in now too. Broke down and bought FilePlanet subscription. I m on test 13 but can gladly change it to join you guys. Level my rogue to 4 tonight and it was cool all the way to the moment i got crazy lag so i logged off for the night.
Well made game so far.

From what I can tell, chat channels are persistent - you stay in them until you leave them. You don't have to type /autojoin. So anyone in the current stress test, create a character on Test 5, and /join cnwow, and you'll find us there.
It was weird last night, I had just died (which isn't a really big deal), and a group invite pops up. I started to get annoyed because I was on a CR, and then I see it's Teory! I suddenly didn't feel so alone. Then Nebbie (Worin) showed up and we all chatted for a bit.
I'm looking forward to getting a CN guild started in WoW. Not really sure it's necessary in stress test or open beta, because I think the game will probably be released in a couple weeks, and our chat channel works fine as a sort of guild chat. But it will be nice to make it more formal.

Fun stuff! Sorry if I made you choose the wrong one Lachaise

I think lots of starting a char and starting over is a great thing for the beta anyways. I'm playing a mage for now, but think I might wanna be a hunter come release, the tauren ones are cool - or if undead, I do kind of like the priests believe it or not :p

well last night I DLd the WOw in about 1hr 5mins..not too bad considering i was also dl matrix at the same time hehe.
so heres what i got from it, i 3 hours, i played a druid to lvl 7, a paladin to 3, warlock1(in progresss)
the graphics where great, i loved the animations, mana and health where not a problem since regen was super fast. i could blast a mob..walk around for 20-30secs and be full mana/health.
spells where easy to get(training). the zones wherepretty smooth...oh and the magic blasting was awesome..i just loved that you could nuke..and really see your nuke form fly from your hands and see it go across teh screen and land on target. armor is pretty easy to get so is cash, since it tends to drop of the mobs. i started with a naked druid and had him almost fully clothed just from killing mobs.
warlocks get pets...after you do a quest..which is why my warlock is not lvl 2..spend 1hr searching for the damn cave that has the specific mobs...never found it..searched the whole zone inch by inch almost.
haven't figured out how to group..its not very player friendly in those terms, and the chatting system is sorta interesting. some commands have to be typed haven't figured out if there is some way to maco them..stuff like sit and stand have to be /command kinda stuff.
quest givers are super easy to find, all npcs are clearly laveled.
i did like the fact that when you target a mob..it gives you its name and what lvl it is..so far it told me up to mobs of lvl 70. which is very nice..attacking a mob and finding out its lvl 70 afterwards would suck.
death is weird you go as a spirit to some grave yard, and you can ask an angel to bring you back to life at the cost of a ton of exp, don't know if clerics can rez haven't asked or played one yet.
characters are easy simple and very fast to customize as far as looks.
The starting cities are pretty big, i like that it gives you a quick intro tour to every city when you start a char.
overall i think the game is great, however i don't think it has the long lasting potential that eq has since it is pretty easy on actual game play. fun factor i'd give it a 8 out of 10, lasting factor i'd give it a 7 out of 10.
tonight my thing will be to find that damn cave..i want my warlock pet dangit! warlock pets are also trainable in lvls and power once you get em apparently.so far i have not seen or met a warlock with a pet..more the reason to be the one to figure out the darn quest.

Well, we wont be beta testing, but if we hear enough good things about this game, maybe we will end up playing it in the future. So far lots of good things said, but we will see.
