Only a matter of time before it hits the US as well. The bottom line is money and the keepers of the lines about about see how much blood they can squeeze from a turnip.

It's not really that "new"... a lot of ISPs in Ontario (and probably elsewhere in Canada) stopped offering "unlimited" bandwidth packages a number of years ago. The packages they offer now are smaller like that article mentions, and you pay a set amount per GB over your "limit". Some companies are much worse than others (Bell Canada being one of the worst IMHO - plus their service sucks on the reliability and support scale, esp for xDSL).

The sad part is there are a lot of people who don't know about their limits as they never hit them, but then sign up for something like NetFlix for $8 per month and get a few hundred $ charge from their ISP at the end of the month for over-limit-usage. That is more of a case of people just not reading about the services that they purchase.
