Everquest Welcome Screen

If you know how to stop the opening welcome screen that is now popping up when you zone into the game, please post the details here.

Sadly, both solutions I've found so far didn't work. I look forward to sending it on its way as well.

I don't even mind the screen that much, but when it only changes once a month, I don't need to bring it up every time like a bad tequila experience.

A fix stolen shamelessly from another board:

Go into your UI_CharName_ServerName file in your EverQuest Directory.

Search for the word "Welcome"

Should bring you to the lined "WebWindow0_UniqueId=WelcomeWebWnd"

Delete the part that says "WelcomeWebWnd" and save. Should disable the welcome screen for that character.

Worked for me!

I tried that one too - and it didn't work.

Mind you, I didn't delete the value, I just set it to something invalid. It's probably worth trying the delete part.

Edit: Deleting it appears to have worked! I made the edits at character select, so it is still possible that something might change during a full login, but so far it seems to be effective. Also seems to leave the window available if you want to pull it up manually.

Along with UI_CharName, you have to change your eqclient...

change DetectWelcomeFailure=0 to 1

I tried UI_CharName by itself and didn't work but did when i edited eqclient

instead of deleting you can probably just invalidate it by preceding the entry with //

I didn't have to do anything in the eqclient file, and my Welcome window is gone (for the moment!). I haven't done a patch to the client after the fix yet, so I'm not sure if it "fixes" the fix to get rid of the window. I've logged fully out of the game, and back in via WinEQ and my Welcome window stayed away.

Hopefully, Sony doesn't nerf the ability to X that window!

Looks like Welcome window is back again, guess was a fluke yesterday it was gone. I don't use WinEQ, maybe that why it works. Oh well guess ill suffer through it.

So, to summerize, nothing listed here works? Once you do any of it and log out and come back it is back? That is how I am currently reading this thread.

That appears to be the case. When I did a full login, the patcher put the "WelcomeWebWnd" back in, and the welcome screen returned.

Might be able to work around it by using the patchme trick to skip the updates. Which means you would only have to change it once a patch. Still a pain.

Yup, it came back on me as well :(

There has to be a way to get rid of that monstrosity!

What would happen if you simply made these files read-only?

Thought of that - but then hotbuttons, window placement, all those kind of goodies wouldn't get saved either. Which is (also) yuck.

Tried routing eqplayers.station.sony.com to localhost to see if I could trick it into some sort of error, but nope. Still got the window, just all white instead. I would hate to edit the window position off screen, since it would still be technically open, taking resources. (Mind you, it WOULD close the first time you hit escape, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad...)
