Wild Fires in New Mexico/West Texas

Postby Saphirone » Sun Jan 01, 2006 2:54 pm

Hey Guys and Gals!! It's the first of the year, and while the world didn't end, we did get quite a surprise this afternoon, when it came on the television that parts of our Southeastern New Mexico town, Hobbs, was being evacuated because we were being threatened by a WildFire burning west of the City.

Now, this isn't a bad thing, first time this has ever happened while I was here, but usually the fire departments are on that like white on rice, however, things are a little different today...

With wind gusts from 60-70 miles per hour, and it blowing steadily 35-40 miles per hour, things are moving very quickly from west to East, as several fires surrounding the Southeastern Part of New Mexico and threatening west Texas move easterly.

Now, we've got fire departments from all over trying to keep our city from burning down, (I blame the Casino they put in, :-P~) however, if you guys don't see my trader, (Saphi) up, then ya know, I Had to evacuate too.

Will keep you guys updated and posted as I can. I Know Eamile and Torizzt have Family just West of me here, and I'm not sure how the fire is affecting them, but I know here in Hobbs, they've shut down our Truck By Pass, the west side of Bender, (For those who are familiar with Hobbs), and were considering shutting the Carlsbad Highway Down. Far as we know, the Lovington Highway, (One of two main escapes now) is still open, and the Seminole Highway is still open (Second highway for escape.) So if you folks have family down in these parts, and they haven't been warned yet, might better be a good idea for you to give em a call if ya can, and let em know what's going on, :).

We'll be praying hard for you Saphi, and everyone else in those areas. I sure hope they can get it all under control soon. Take care and don't take any chances...HUGS!

Update:

They haven't evacuated me, but for now, looks like I am approximately 5 miles south from danger.

Hobbs New Mexico made news in Canada!! (WEWT!! We're famous!!!)

We now officially have 4 wild fires. One burning now on the west side of the city of Hobbs, West Side of Lovington, West Side of Tatum, West Side of Dora.

Tatum has been Fully Evacuated.

Hobbs has been evacuated by 1/3rd.

Dora has been completely evacuated.

Lovington is just now starting evacuations.

No one, as far as what they are saying, has been injured or killed yet, however, we're all praying the fire dies asap, as the winds are now starting to die down. It's still a weee bit breezy, but not as bad as it was earlier today. I know in Hobbs, they've evacuated both colleges, told the Prison to take cover, (Quiigon is working there tonight), and are shutting down roads, :(.

I just hope my internet stays alive, :(

Postby Saphirone » Sun Jan 01, 2006 5:34 pm

The City of Hobbs has declared a State of Emergancy. (Hobbs is where I live). Two Fires are now burning at Hobbs. Story can be found here

On a side note, we're so board, we decided to give the fire burning west of Hobbs a name. Now named Hobbs West, HAHAHA!!!

Ok Last Update. The fires that were in Southeastern and Eastern New Mexico, are now all being reported as contained, and all but one controlled, :).

Glad you and your family are safe Saphi. I can't believe you went through all of this with a smile on your face.

Stay safe and looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Eamile has talked to her family in Carlsbad , NM and there are no fires close to them at this moment. So for the time being they are safe.We do hope that Sapphy and her family remain safe in Hobbs and that they return safely to their home soon.

Take care , Torizzt and Eamile
