Howdy from CN WoW

Postby mccage » Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:59 pm

Hi there! I only know a few of the CN bunch, mainly from WoW but I thought I would pop in and see how EQ was going. I saw a few expansions and was wondering how everyone was enjoying EQ of late. For those who don't know me, I am a member of CN on the WoW Whisperwind server with Mystik, Eld, Binabek, Mirril, and quite a few others. I haven't played EQ in nearly a year so I am way behind. I figured I would log in sometime soon and check it since I just got a bill for the account <grumble> but I wanted to get the thoughts and feelings from those who have been playing it. Feel free to e-mail or respond here. I'll check back in the next few days. If I don't get a chance to hollar back, Happy Thanksgiving!

I am a WoW convert. Started a priest on Icecrown, leveled to 60, raided Molten Core, Blackwing lair, Onixia and Zul Farrik...then ran out of things to do. Everyone else seemed to immerse themselves in PVP, battlegrounds etc... Not so fun as a holy priest, and no one 'needs' healers outside of raids. Started an alt, like everyone does, leveled him again... still the lack of depth at 60 was profound. Raid a couple of days then...? tradeskill? maxxed. farm items? Cant get upgrades outside high end raids... farm plat? To buy what, no upgrades to be bought...

I returned to EQ and there is no shortage of things to do. Epics, raids a few nights, single group able upgrades in gear and spells, trials (which up resist caps), zone access quests, solo/duo able monster missions for meaningful exp, lots of rare trinkets and bobbles to pursue, AAs to be reached for, the cutest girls/women in the mmorpg world to chat with (some which will chat back, even if they don’t admit it)...

I came back and felt so behind. I was still level 67 with craptastic gear... In a month or so, I am now level 70, fully Elemental/Time/KT flagged as well as tickling 10k hitpoints and back to the high end of the raid parses.

I do not mean this as a WoW bash, I like WoW. It is a very fun game up to 60. these were just my experiences with it. Perhaps if I liked PvP, or did not raid it would have held me longer. I just ran out of things to reach for...

I certainly understand that. CN on Whisperwind is in the process of building from the ground up. We recently added a calendar and other guild tools to the site, but at this point it's going to come down to numbers. They've added content to WoW but we lack the numbers to attempt it. I loved the tradeskills in EQ and the variety of things to do but I never had time to look for groups or find raids and soloing was nearly impossible high end. I wouldn't bash EQ or WoW and other than the trial I haven't played EQ2. Being married and an engineering student, I don't always have time to play for more than an hour. So has EQ worked out the PoK main bank lag and other issues? And are they on expansion 42 or what? I remember grumbling about having to buy velious... Anyhow, thanks for the response. /wave Teory

Please say hi to Bin, Mystikx, Eldiroth, Mirril, and Tindaien (if he's still there) for me. Tell them the door to EQ is still open, as always, and I'll never give up hope that they'll come to their senses.

I'm a semi-WoW convert, myself. I only played to about level 30 and when my freebie subscription time ran out (and the server was down for the umpteenth time) I decided that my longing for EQ was real and not just nostalgia.

I do miss all my oldest and closest friends from the "old days" in EQ though. Tell them to come home for me, would you?

Shette is on often and we see Lashon occasionally. I'm not sure who all knew my cousin Rach, but she said to tell everyone hi. I've got the access to her account if Myrron ever logs on(I'm supposed to give him some stuff). I know he's busy recovering from the hurricanes so best to him where he is.

Anyhow, if I do re-enable my account, from what I've seen I'd be so far behind on EQ that I would never catch up. The new UI looks fancy but would take getting used to. If you guys have characters on WoW servers, we have a default channel "cnwow" no password. We also have the teamspeak thing going on if you guys (and girls) feel like chatting it up. Open door policy swings both ways. The CN door is open on Whisperwind as well. Safe travels!

Hey CN ;)

I see a lot (ok, a whole lot) of new faces since my time in CN/EQ. For those who don't know who the hell I am, I was a CN member for just over a year, but haven't played EQ for the last year. I left EQ to form CN in WoW. Had a lot of fun with that. I was the guild leader, and the officers included Teory, Lachaise, Roladena, Myrron, Lashon, Auru (old-school CN), Aelent/Kormad, and probably more I'm forgetting.

WoW is just a phenomonally good game....until you hit 60. Once you hit 60 you can raid (and I didn't have the play time for that), PvP (I suck at it, and I hate it), or farm gold (very tedious). So long about June or July of this year, I got tired of WoW and took a break. I went to EQ2 where I hooked up with a bunch of former CNers in Order of the Open Hand. they are a great group, and I leveled a paladin to 30, but for some reason I got tired of EQ2 also. So now I'm back in WoW for the time being. I am going to level my rogue to 60 and farm a bit to try to afford my epic mount. Of course after that happens, I'll be right back at square 1 - bored with WoW and nothing to play.

In all this time, I've occasionally thought about coming back to EQ. Every time I've thought about it, though, it hasn't seemed too appealing. While EQ is still my overall favorite MMORPG, hands down, it has a huge learning curve. I have almost completely forgotten how to play. When I left I was 3-boxing in OoW for 66-67 spell runes. Now I would be lucky to even find my way out of PoK. Plus with the new expansions release in the last year, my gear would be pathetic.

I'm not ruling out an EQ come-back, because as I said, EQ1 is still by far my favorite game of all time. I'm just not sure I'm up for all the work a comeback means...:P

Cen, I have to say that the learning curve is definitly a problem - plus the never ending expansions add to that. However, I find that EQ is more social than I found WoW to be and I missed that. I came back in Time for CN to beat Time and that has been a fun thing to do. I was not completely behind the curve with regard to Trab's gear, Bobbert took great care of him while I was playing WoW so he was not runing around in banded mail or anything like that :).

One thing I did not like...I had some attachment to Vazaelle as a server and was mildly miffed when they kept the newbie server name after the merger. I still do not 'identify' with this server. That said, so many of the people I knew from Vazaelle left the game that I guess it would not have been the same anyways

You'll find it less painful than you thought Eld and I know that CN took great care of me on my return - my EQ time is always sporadic (won't get to play for a week and then put in 23 hours on a weekend) and I've hit 68 and added about 60 AAs.

For those of you who haven't met McCage, he was a great member in CNWow that we turned the guild over to after he made it very clear that he'd serve our name well. We always struggled a bit with getting critical mass there for events and he was doing a great job of drumming up enthusiasm.

Say hi to the gangs in CNWoW and OoOH in EQ2 for me :)

I have never played WoW, but I did have a similar experience with leaving EQ for a while (I played EQ2). Since coming back a few months ago, I have been very pleasantly surprised to find the game more enjoyable than the first time I played it. I think a lot of the credit goes to joining CN and meeting all the great people I raid/group with. The time away did leave my character a little gimp in terms of AA and gear, and I don't know that I will ever catch up. Luckily the raid leaders are nice enough the let my weak tank do some fun stuff in phase one of Time. Anyway, the point of my post is that if any of you do decide to return to EQ, I think you will find it much better than what you may think.

Eld! Hugs to you and please pass them on to my friends that also left for WoW etc. (especially LaThon :P )

Also, to any CN (and/or friends of) returning from WoW/EQ2 to EQ, I'd be happy to do my best to help you feel "caught up" as well. There are a lot of options now to be able to do that rather quickly and I'm always so excited to see the old faces that it greatly pleases me to do what I can to assist.
