Looking for some tech help

Postby Reiynman » Tue Jun 28, 2005 6:10 am

Well I'm back and I bought a new computer. I've installed up to PoP on the new PC but of course the rest is all download....

I'm having an issue with the downloads. The files keep timing out in the middle of their attempted downloads. Sometimes I get through one, two, even five or six before it times out. Sometimes I don't even get through the first one.

I'm running a home network, both PCs have XP (used to be my old PC was ME and the other XP) and obviously if I can post this message I do have connectivity, although maybe it is not steady enough for downloads. (I don't know)

Any help would be appreciated.

... is there another place where you can download all updated files in one mass file or something?

Did you do it the hard way...aka play EQ and let the patcher do all the Downloading?...or what you could do is kill all the Anti-virus or Firewall...unless you know how to tweek it...then try downloading...Second issue Dial-up?

If there is an easier way than letting the patcher do all the work, I'm all ears! I didn't know there was another place to get files past Planes of Power.

No dial-up, I'm on a cable connection.

One at a time or all at once, I'll need them all sooner or later.

Good news is it was just a router. Buying a new router gave me an excuse to buy a new video card while I was there. I should be blazing by the time I get back in the game ... which unfortunately won't be tonight unless I have a miraculous download time.

Weeeeeee I have a new computer that WORKS!

You know ---- "Here's your sign".

After all the downloading and the pain in the booty process that installing the new video card turned out to be, the good people at SOE decide that TODAY is a good day for a patch!? I want a supervisor!!!!

LOL. Killin me.

lol. do you have a firewall on your network ... not the one in XP ... if you don't have anything then you are possibly getting flooded off your cable connection by other cable users who setup their pc's incorrectly. without a firewall, your pc's nic responds to every incoming packet whether it is a valid packet or not, a firewall will filter out those packets and requests that you are not asking the internet for.

I do not have a firewall set up. I'm not much of a computer kind of guy, so setting one up isn't something I'm familiar with. Any sort of docs I could look anywhere that might help me set myself up in the best case scenario?
