Not sure how many of you read these posts for other than info concerning the raids, or tips.

I heard someone talking about my choice of name I reference to Weber's Honor Harrington series. So, here are what I consider good reads.

Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series (starts with Lost Fleet: Dauntless)
Pretty much anything by Arthur C. Clark
Isaac Asimov
Frank Herbert (Brian, his son has taken over the Dune series, but I don't think he has the same talent as his father)
Terry Brooks
Tom Clancy (Jack Ryan Books)
Fred Saberhagen
Stephen R Donaldson
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Joe Haldeman
Pittacus Lores I AM Number Four series (kind of juvenile, but still ok)
Eric Flint
Elizabeth Moon - She has several series that are great reads
Anne McCaffrey (her son has taken over her Dragon Rider series)
John Flanagan (juvenile books, but I enjoy reading these with my children)
J.R.R. Tolkien (duh)
James Lovegrove (Age of Odin, Age of Zeus, Age of Ra)
Harry Turtledove
S.M. Stirling
Robert Jorden
Naomi Novik
Rick Riordan (another juvenile type of books)
Taylor Andersons Destroyermen Series
A.G. Riddles Atlantis Gene (kind of weird, and I am not sure if I really like it, but will give the second book a chance before I make up my mind)
John Birmingham
Larry Niven
Andre Norton
Lewis Carroll
Orson Scott Card
Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games)
Evan Curries Odyssey One series
Daniel Defoe
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
David Drake
Alexandre Dumas
George R.R. Martin (hope he lives long enough to finish the series, and I bet HBO is hoping even harder)
Jules Verne
H.G. Wells
Robert Asprin
Piers Anthony
Ben Bova

I am sure there are more, but couldn't think of them right this moment.

Nice list, I've read some of the books from nearly every author on it. Couple I'd like to add:

Jack Lee - wrote a zombie apocalypse trilogy and another series called Paladin Files
Jim Butcher - well known for Dresden Files and lesser known Codex Alera series
