Taojonz (70 monk) wishes to join the Celestial Navigators

Post by Taojonz » Mon Jun 27, 2005 7:34 pm

The Basics

-Name Taojonz
-Class Monk
-Level 70
-How many AAs? 50
-Is this character a main or an alt? Main
-List which keys and flags you have. PoN, PoT,
-Do you have a clicky buff item? Celestial Fists
-Do you currently have an Enduring Breath item? No, but buying one very soon

A Little Bit About Yourself

-What are a few things you enjoy most about your class? Feign, dps, the moves, the value of learning to do more with less. We are the most disadvantaged class in EQ (spells, armor etc.), and though many of us complain about it, deep down we're proud of how we've perservered...kinda like someone who grew up during hard times and made it in spite of it all. Playing a monk often feels like being the last kid picked on a sports team, but I wouldn't trade if for anything. :^D .

-What are a few things you enjoy most about playing EQ? (For example: raiding, grouping, soloing, tradeskilling, exploring, questing, etc) Exploring, being a boyscout and helping newbies and other folks in need. Sharing knowledge when I myself know. Raiding? has been so long, but loved the few I got in on.
-Give us an example of what you normally do when you play right now. What does a typical evening of playing EQ look like?
Well, lately, it'd been LFG'ng for exp to get to 70 which I reached 4 days ago. I put off continuing AA until I got to 70 so I'm working on that now. If no groups can be found I often help out the /ooc for help on quests and such. I'm a bit of a goodie 2 shoes when folks ask for help.

-Tell us some of your short and long term goals for your character. (For example: quests, epic, tradeskills, leveling, AA ability, etc)
I haven't seen much of the expansions I've purchased due to limited access. I've visited many a guild website and seen the pics of mobs I've only heard about. My 1.0 epic took me to many zones, but I've barely seen 20% of EQ zones. Now that I can AA, It's nice not to have to decide how much to put on exp vs. aa. Now to work on getting the cool perks I've been missing.
-When do you normally play EQ? What is your time zone? Mountain time/Denver, Colorado. play 6:00 pm after home from work.
-Please list your alts on this server (just names). No alts at all
-Please tell us which other guilds you have been a part of and why you chose to leave. (Bloodhammer about 1 month or so)- Joined this guild before I even knew what a guild was. I remember asking someone "What's that name in parenthesis under your characters name for?" I was invited on the spot before knowing anything about them. No one offered much infomation either. I thought a guild was just a chatroom. It did make groups a little easier, but nothing much else came out of it. I missed being solo where I could join anyone anywhere and actually get to play. That was before the exp and soloing percentages changed.
(Together as One)-Was politely asked by someone that noticed that their guild's Acronym was the same as my first name Tao. Thought it was fate. stayed with them 2 years +. Leaving was tough, because though we weren't very active (hadn't raided in 5 months after losing raid leader) I'd made many friends. Guild became destracted by many real life relationships and guild "weddings". Breakups caused members fight and to disband or leave EQ totally. Lots of arguments in guild chat. Members joining guild with alts just to spy on others then arguing some more. Guild leaders falling asleep during raids for their own epic. Saw lack of respect for leadership and vice versa. I had to do my epic 1.0 with the help of pickup groups (about 90% of the time). When we were finally down to 20 members from a high point of 300+, remaining officer told me maybe it was time to find a new guild before they crashed completly. Went solo for several months.
(Chosen Champions for 3 weeks maybe) Asked an officer if they had a website and if they were recruiting They sent me a guild invite before they even replied. I thought that was strange but accepted it anyway. I'd heard good stuff about them when on Vazaelle. Their website hadn't been updated in 7 months. Found out the lack of interest from the guild after joining. Log on and say hi in guild and rarely got a reply, and was often the only one to greet others who'd logged on. Often only 5 or less members online and some of those were bazaar mules. I gave 1480 in guild tribute points. The next day they were missing. Told officer, she said "I see that it shows you donated alright." The issue never came up again but I was a little disappointed at the lack of help. Life seemed to have drained from them.

-If you are still a member in another guild we want to know that too and why. (Phoenix Flames- Was asked to join this just forming guild while in a DoN with their highest level member, 70shammy-- told them I would help them out whilst they recruited new members but that I was continuing my search for a guild to call home. The past week, haven't seen more than 6 members on at the same time. I'm currently the only one on and it's 8:30pm. The person that recruited me was kicked out yesterday for insulting other members of guild and being "too bossy". He was an officer. I'm now highest member in guild that I'm only volunteering for. Guild was supposedly aggresively recruiting, but haven't seen a new member announcement since i've been there. Glad I'm just visiting.

Your Experience with CN

-Do you know any current members of CN? Have you ever raided or hunted with us? Please give specific names and events if you can remember.
I have grouped with Necessitas, Rebbecca(don't think that's the same that was an officer in TaO though) Pallistous, Numrae, Cicak, Roladena. Don't know if they remember my name, but maybe they remember my pulling cry of "...IT'S CLOBBERIN TIME!!" Never raided with your guild that I remember.

-Why are you applying to CN? Is there a specific reason you chose to apply to our guild?
A new friend that I grouped with in a DoN mentioned that she was applying. I'd seen the name so many times on Vazaelle and was always curious. I visited your site, liked what I read, and I love the statements about people being behind the chars and that they deserve respect. I also like the fact that you raid, but it's not mandatory, that you're not a "raid only" and that you seem to keep your site up to date.
-Tell us what your goals are for applying... what do you hope to get out of the guild? Is there anything about how you play EQ now that you hope will change once you are guilded?
What I hope to get is active again. Before the merger of Vaz and Mae, I'd considered giving up EQ because of how many were lost to EQ2 and WoW. Groups were tough to find and it was like watching the slow death of an old friend. I'm seeking desire and enthusiasm from members, comraderie, forgiveness, encouragement, passion and humor. I want to see more zones and mobs, I want to log on for more than Exp alone. In my longest participated guild, I was often the only one who stepped up to the plate and helped out a member in need who had a quest that didn't promise riches or loot, and was for their quest alone. I often do kind things for people just cause I know what it's like when you can't seem to get anyone to help you out. A monk's life on EQ is tough. I'm a very caring and compassionate person and player. I've fought to stay awake many a night helping someone camp a rare mob in some godforsaken zone, but if made me feel good to be relied upon. I do much for those close to me just to see them succeed. I get much satisfaction from the act of giving alone. My volunteering did delay my levelling alot, but I levelled in trust and dependability (corny I know :^P). I often volunteered just to set an example for others. That being said, I often did doubt what it was all for, and felt sorry for myself for all I gave and what little I got. And yeah, I honestly do feel bad that my gear could be better if I was in a better guild, but during good times in TaO, I didn't notice as much because I had alot of fun. But I really do miss the partnerships, successes and failures/lessons. I wanna be a part of something that everyone believes in and that will feel like home again. Thank you for your consideration.
Peace and Good Fortune to you all.

Hey Tao!

I enjoyed reading your app, it looks like you put a lot of thought into that. I can't wait to meet you and see you in action. I'll PM you with the applicants channel so you can get involved in some groups, quests, and raids soon!

Talk to you soon!

EDIT: Can't PM you since you're not registered. Feel free to shoot a tell to us ingame, or Galarina will likely catch you soon and give you the info too.

EDIT EDIT: Woot you registered, PMing you now. As you can see, I'm highly overwhelmed at work.../giggle

PS~ Monks are highly underrated ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing Taojonz online, and hopefull guilded. He probably doesn't remember me, but I've done some adventures with him and for some reason since his name always makes me say "Toe Jam" in my head when I read it, it has stuck with me as one of the names of people that I always remember.

He's a durn good monk and was friendly in the groups I was in with him. Glad to see his app.

Hm. With all the good apps and new recruits lately, I wonder if there are any good players left in the game that aren't in CN or applying....?

Doubt it.

Here I was chuckling cause it reminded me of Dow Jones Industrial.... In Taoism the word "Tao" is pronounced "Dow" So.... Tao Jonz ... Dow Jones... Or perhaps he was craving spirituality when he made the toon, like he was "jonsing" for some Tao? ..and "Tao" means (roughly translated) "the way" so maybe the monk was searching for the way... Or maybe his last name is just Jones and he's like Tao(ist) Jones?

Either way it seems an appropriate name for a monk.

and WOW I really need to get out more, talk about over analyzation.....
