Re: [Server] Power Overwhelming... So what to do with it?

There shouldn't have been anything lost - I'll take a look through and see what I can find. Do any particular threads come to mind?

Re: [Server] Power Overwhelming... So what to do with it?

To access my goat porn collection, I'll need to setup a VPN connection. I don't allow access over unsecured connections.

Re: [Server] Power Overwhelming... So what to do with it?

MySQL - those are the folks who had their webpage hacked through a SQL injection, wasn't it? I still giggle. MySQL -© 2011, Oracle Corporation and/or its affiliates I know that I have enough 'fun' at work developing apps that I don't need to do it at home. But maybe someone would enjoy it if you li...

Re: [Server] Power Overwhelming... So what to do with it?

Hah. It's even worse than that. It's a Penguin Computing Altus 650 - I felt obligated to defile it with Windows first thing. Sad thing is, because Linux has regressed in actual usability since my last real Linux-on-bare-metal experience (Slackware 4.0), Windows ran better on a Penguin Computing box ...

[Server] Broken stuff and additional services.

So, I've got a colocated server that borders on the obscene*, and I have next to nothing to load it with right now. I plan on adding SSL for the forums (https://celestialnavigators.org) this weekend, and maybe a Mumble server that authenticates off the forums... Other than this, though, what might y...

Just confirmed with Raven, she's read Konrath's stuff, and I've actually spoken with her about his ideas at length.

Re: Asking a favor...

Thanks to everyone that voted.

Just an update on this: She won the contest overall, and a $1000 prize.

As far as publishing, she actually has 1 book published by an actual publisher, and has self-published several others.

Re: Asking a favor...

Thanks!

Just a few hours until the round closes, and things are just a couple votes apart. If she wins this bracket, she's up for either an iPad or $1000, so any votes are appreciated.

Asking a favor...

If you guys could vote for my roommate Raven's story at http://www.allromanceebooks.com/contest_just_one_bite.html I - and she - would appreciate it. She's in the second to last round, and this one ends in a day or two. The second bracket doesn't entirely matter either way, at the moment. Just takes...

Unless you're being royally and utterly reamed by the domain registrar (you're almost certainly not), no more than $12/year for the domain name itself.

There are a lot of pictures and movies stored there. It won't be just a few small text files. If we're talking a few GB, no big deal. I've got 20GB of storage available to me, although I'm not about to devote all of it to TF's site, of course. If I feel it's unreasonable, I'll offer suggestions on ...

Alright. If all else fails, we may be able to present a convincing enough of a case to the host to at least allow a third party to pay for things, or possibly release the data - But that's far from a guarantee. Just let me know what access you guys have to what, and so on, and what you want to do an...

Worff is the admin. he's been MIA for a while. Oh goodie. Does anybody else have any of the admin logins, etc? If not, it sounds like Tarvas' credit card is the one Site5 would have, and that might be enough to convince the host to provide an administrative username and password. Usually the one th...

If there's a need, I've been hosting CN's site for 7 or so years now, and doubt TF's boards would be anything of a burden. If wanted, you can have the admin e-mail me at rendus@gmail.com. I'd just need a dump of their forums database, and it looks like the forums have a bit of customization to them,...

What happened? No idea. What I did, in case someone (Ommina maybe?) cares: Rolled back DB 1 day 8 hours because I had just woken up and thought the DB exploded, no change. Rolled back to a backup 8 hours ago, still no change. Left it on that backup since it's been down more than 8 hours anyway. Had ...

Re: Speed

I just bought an i7 920 D0 stepping and related bits and pieces. The specific processor I bought should get to 4.2-4.4GHz with the heatsink I bought. Not sure I'd go so far as to buy an Extreme processor, but the i7 series is /very/ nice.

My list is relatively short, but I stopped watching anime some time ago - I caught myself watching anything that was anime, because of the medium and not the content within. So the below list is of relatively old stuff: SE:Lain has been mentioned but is an absolute must for nerds. Spot the Apple ref...

Well... It depends on what's overheating. If there's just poor airflow through the case, 2 80mm fans, one intake at the bottom front of the case and one outflow at the top rear, would do wonders assuming there aren't already fans there. If you're getting CPU overheating warnings, a new heatsink woul...

If you were just picking up a couple drives, instead buy a set of 4 and RAID them. If you were picking up 4 7200RPMs to RAID consider a Raptor 10k RPM drive instead. (This is assuming dual-core CPU, top-end card, and at least 2GB of RAM. At that point, loading data from disk would be the biggest bot...
